Based on the BBC radio serial. Mrs Dale's Diary was first broadcast on the BBC Light Programme on 5th January 1948. In February 1962, the serial was renamed The Dales and later transferred to the newly-formed Radio 2 in 1967, where it ran until 25th April 1969.
In this book, Rex Edwards, one of the programme's regular team of writers, has chosen some of the events which have figured prominently in the lives of the Dales since they moved from the comfort of Parkwood Hill to the fast-growing new town of Exton. All the regulars are to be found and the main events in this book are Mrs Dale's car accident while learning to drive and the resulting court case; the troubles of the Owen family and the subsequent tragic death of David; the Dale's trip to the Middle East; and Dr Dale's heart attack. Many other events are touched on - the opening of Sally's boutique, for instance, or the time when Bob and Jenny's two children ran away - and the book recreates a vivid background which will stir up memories of many characters and incidents of life in Exton. A map of Exton and the Dale's family tree are also included.
