Iron & Steel Bill - Some Arguments For and Against Ephemera : Social History

Stapled booklet in good condition with some light wear and creasing.

Published by the British Iron and Steel Federation - 1949. 64 pages. 16.7cm x 23cm.

The Iron and Steel Corporation of Great Britain was a nationalised industry, set up in 1949 by Clement Attlee's Labour government via the Iron & Steel Bill. The Act took effect 15 February 1951, the Corporation becoming the sole shareholder of 80 of the principal iron and steel companies.

At the point this booklet was published the Bill had been read for a second time in both Houses of Parliament and it was felt possible to evaluate more closely the arguments used for and against this far-reaching measure. This booklet discusses some of the major arguments on both sides.
