You could say that it was Pompey who started Katherine on the road to recovery, for the cheeky, inquisitive little kitten was the first to make friends with her early on her first morning at Feather Ghyll. But since the whole village of Feather Ghyll knew about Katherine and her long illness, lots of other people wanted to help too. There was young, cheerful Dr. Carey and his sister Elizabeth, kindly Mrs Hooperthwaite who tried to 'feed Katherine up', the irrepressible James ('you just can't feel sorry for yourself when James is about') and, of course, the girls from the Rectory across the road - Sally, Lucy and Jenny. Soon Katherine found that the days were not long enough to fit in reading, painting, puppet-making and, the most important of all, learning to walk again. This story of Katherine's recovery and of her friendship with Sally is told with great humour and charm, and will be enjoyed by girls everywhere.
